Travel tips

What do I need to organize before the trip?
You will need a visa to enter Sri Lanka. However, as the regulations change from time to time and a visa is no longer required, please check the Sri Lankan immigration authorities' website in good time to see whether you need to apply for a visa and find out about the other current travel regulations for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Online Visa Application

What do I have to take into account when entering the country?
To enter Sri Lanka, you may need to fill out an entry form. This can be done online or on paper. The online entry form can be filled out no earlier than three days before arrival in Sri Lanka. The paper form is usually handed out on the plane to Colombo and is also available in front of the immigration desk at Colombo airport. The entry form must be filled out separately for each traveler.

How does the transfer from Colombo Airport to Nilaveli work?
If you wish, we will be happy to organize a private transfer to the Ayurveda Resort. A driver will pick you up personally at Colombo airport and drive you in an air-conditioned vehicle directly to the Ayurveda Resort
The journey time is between 3.5 h and 4.5 h depending on the time of day and traffic volume

Where can I exchange money? How can I pay?
Swiss francs and euros can be exchanged at the airport. ATMs for withdrawing cash can be found in Nilaveli / Trincomale. We are happy to help you if you have any questions and are available at any time.
The Ayurveda Resort accepts credit and debit cards.
If you need a SIM card for Sri Lanka, we recommend that you get one at the airport.

What is the climate like in Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka is a year-round travel destination with a tropical monsoon climate. Temperatures in Sri Lanka are high and vary little throughout the year. The highest temperatures occur on the east coast from March to June. The warm, humid climate is particularly suitable for an Ayurvedic treatment.
The temperature difference to Europe is smaller in summer, so the body can adapt more easily.

Ayurveda treatment in Sri Lanka

What can I do at home to prepare for the treatment?
It is advisable to eat only light, vegetarian food for four to five days before starting the treatment and to avoid cheese and eggs. Drink around two litres of herbal tea (ginger tea) or warm water that has been boiled for around 10 minutes every day. If you do not live too far away, we recommend a consultation in our practice in Bern (Switzerland) before the treatment www.nilaveli-ayurvedapraxis.ch

What clothes should I bring for my treatment?
Light, easily washable summer clothing made of natural fibers (cotton, linen) is ideal.
Due to the various oil applications, stains may occur on light-colored clothing (laundry service possible)
We recommend that you bring additional old swimming trunks/underwear for oil applications as well as a headscarf as wind and sun protection for treatments on the head (Shirodara).

What clothing is appropriate during and after treatments?
You will receive a personal bathrobe or towel (sarong) which you can wear during the treatments.

Bungalows and facilities

How are the bungalows equipped?
The ten spacious detached bungalows have their own terrace and a large
private outdoor shower area and offer plenty of privacy. The bungalows are deliberately furnished without WiFi, TV and telephone. All bungalows are equipped with ceiling fans, mosquito nets and a safe.

Are there air-conditioned bungalows?
During an Ayurveda treatment, the body is always treated with heat, namely by massaging with warm oil, sweating, and hot food and drinks. The purifying and detoxifying effect of these measures is prevented by staying in cooled rooms, so most bungalows have deliberately not been fitted with air conditioning units. However, air conditioning units have been installed in a few bungalows at the request of our guests, but experience has shown that they are used very little.

Meals are taken in a restaurant that is open all around. In the evening, long clothing is recommended because of mosquitoes.

Is there internet access at Nilaveli Ayurveda Center?
Free WiFi is available to guests at the reception and in the lounge area by the swimming pool.

What other facilities are there?
A small library in German and English is available to guests. We recommend that you bring your favorite reading material from home for your stay. Our park and lounge area offer quiet places to relax and unwind.

Is the Ayurveda Resort located directly on the beach?
According to Ayurvedic doctors, Ayurvedic treatments are not recommended directly near the beach, but our guests still appreciate the immediate proximity to the sea for a morning walk on the beach or for swimming in the early morning hours.
Nilaveli Beach, one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Sri Lanka, is just 12 minutes walk or five minutes by bike from the Ayurveda resort and invites you to linger and enjoy.
